Spargo singer Lilian Day Jackson has died at the age of 63. The Dutch disco and funk group scored a big hit in 1980 with You And Me.
The singer’s daughter announced the news via Facebook. “It is with great sadness and pain that I have to say that my beautiful mother passed away yesterday on April 24. She left peacefully with her family around her,” she writes.
“My everything, my love, my example. I am so grateful to you for everything you have given me. The love of my life, my best friend. You fought until the very last moment. I love you so much, dear mama. Fly high.”
New York-born Jackson became known as the singer of Spargo. That band scored a number of hits, especially in the eighties.
The most famous song was You And Me, which made it to number one in the Dutch hit list. The song was also a great success in other European countries. In addition, songs like One Night Affair and Just For You hits.
Spargo broke up in 1985, but began a reunion in 1997. The band has also performed in recent years.
