“Wouldn’t you pick that up and do you do the same at home?”, the former truck driver said in his own words to the boys who had thrown the cans on the street. “One of them then started filming me, while the others got closer and closer.”

Hit in the head

One of the boys said he looked like a pig, after which two boys approached him and he was hit in the head. Then he was punched in the face. “I had surgery on my head at the end of last year and that’s why I’m afraid that something might be wrong now. My glasses have also been broken and I think that’s really rude.”

During a second attack, according to the man, one of the boys took a hammer from his belt pouch, “to intimidate me.” Then one of them kicked him in the thigh, causing him to fall backwards and onto the road.

Four suspects

The assault can be seen in images on social media. The police arrested three boys aged 13, 14 and 15 from Pijnacker this week. The 13-year-old boy was sent home today, the other two are still in custody. A 15-year-old boy from Delft was also arrested today.

The man tells Omroep West that he is happy that the police were able to arrest suspects so quickly. He is very shocked by what happened. “I just don’t understand how anyone could be capable of something like that.”
