‘Arrest classic intelligence work’

THE HAGUE – An intelligence officer working for the Russian military intelligence service GRU has tried to infiltrate the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague. The man wanted to work at the ICC as an intern under a false Brazilian identity. He had already been hired, but could be arrested at Schiphol. Rarely is an intelligence officer “of this caliber” arrested, says Erik Akerboom, director-general of the General Intelligence and Security Service (AIVD).
