Verstappen is not worried after ‘messy’ day: ‘But Ferrari is fast’ | formula 1

--

Max Verstappen is not too worried after a messy first day in Melbourne. The Dutchman finished the second training session in second place on Friday, but was delayed due to a damaged car. Verstappen also saw that Ferrari was fast.

“Because of what happened in the first training, my second training was a bit messy,” said 26-year-old Verstappen in the Albert Park paddock. It took more than twenty minutes for the Dutchman to take to the track in the second session.

“I went too wide at the end of the first practice and damaged the floor and the chassis,” Verstappen explained. “Unfortunately, it took a little longer to fix that. We were able to turn it around fairly quickly. In the end, we were able to complete more or less our entire program, although I would have liked to do a few more laps in the long run.”

Verstappen was almost four tenths short of Charles Leclerc’s fastest time. Ferrari’s Monegasque made an excellent impression, Verstappen also thought. “The feeling was otherwise okay. I think Ferrari is fast, but for us there are still a few small things that we can fine-tune. There is nothing crazy going on and nothing to worry about.”

Verstappen hopes to give his excellent start to the season a fitting follow-up this weekend. The Red Bull driver won the first two races of the year and can also equal his own record series of ten Grand Prix victories in a row.

The Grand Prix weekend in Melbourne continues with the third free practice on the night from Friday to Saturday at 2.30 am (Dutch time). Qualifying is scheduled for 6:00 am. The race is on Sunday at 5am.
