Google is taking a different approach with the Pixel 9 smartphones

--

Apple has had a Pro Max model of the iPhone for years, and Google could soon follow suit with a new Pro XL variant of the Pixel 9.

Google wants to launch three Pixel 9 models this year, OnLeaks and 91mobiles report. In addition to the Pixel 9 and 9 Pro, there will also be a Pro XL, with a 6.5-inch screen. According to the site, the Pixel 9 Pro will have a 6.1-inch screen, which is considerably smaller than the Pixel 8 Pro (6.7 inches). The normal Pixel 9 also has a smaller screen than its predecessor: 6.03 inches instead of 6.2.

OnLeaks has also shared the first renders of the regular Pixel 9, showing the new design. The most striking change is that the camera strip on the back of the device no longer extends across the entire width, as with the Google Pixels of recent years. Instead, the camera island has an oval shape.

The punchhole for the selfie camera is in the middle of the top of the screen and the power buttons are on the right side, just like the Pixel 8. The Pixel 9 also gets wireless charging with the Qi2 standard up to 15W.

Google may announce the new Pixel 9 phones in May during its annual I/O event. They will then only come onto the market in the second half of the year.
