Mislintat is set to return to Dortmund after a failed directorship at Ajax | Football

The 51-year-old Mislintat has been negotiating an employment contract with Dortmund for some time. According to Sky Deutschland, Image and Ruhr Nachrichten the German will take up the position of sporting or technical director at the current number four in the Bundesliga.

Mislintat previously worked at Dortmund for eleven years. He served as a scout, head scout and technical director at the top club. He then played for Arsenal, VfB Stuttgart and Ajax.

Due to possible conflicts of interest in transfers, KPMG is currently investigating Mislintat on behalf of Ajax. His role in the transfer of left back Borna Sosa, among other things, is being scrutinized.

Mislintat’s period at Ajax ended in a fiasco. Although the director spent more than 100 million euros on players, the team dropped to last place in the Eredivisie. He was fired in September after just four months due to a lack of support.

Shortly after Mislintat’s departure, trainer Maurice Steijn also left. The coach later said that the German mainly acted on his own at Ajax and ignored the transfer wishes of the native of The Hague. “It was together, but in practice it was very quickly every man for himself,” said Steijn.

Mislintat later admitted that he regretted choosing Steijn. “I was partly responsible for hiring the trainer. I take that blame. But I have learned a lesson from that. That is also important with a view to a future job. Ajax is now a thing of the past for me.”
