The American news network CNN reports this after its own investigation. Journalists discovered that shortly after Navalny’s death, a photo of him and his wife appeared on the website of a Russian prison subcontractor, with the text “Long live Navalny.”

That may sound like an innocent burglary, but the hackers are also said to have stolen a database containing the data of hundreds of thousands of prisoners and their loved ones. According to the hackers themselves, this includes information about prisoners held in the penal colony where Navalny died.
The hackers shared information about those prisoners, saying they hoped these people could say more about the circumstances under which Navalny died.

The hackers also managed to break into an online platform where friends and family can buy food for prisoners. They lowered the prices of products to 1 ruble (about 1 cent), while things like canned meat normally cost more than 100 rubles.
Only after a few hours was it discovered that people could buy products for much less money than normal, CNN writes.
According to the hackers themselves, the group consists of people from different countries, including Russia and Ukraine.
On the website of a prison store, Russian hackers in exile left a message on February 18: “We, IT specialists, have left today’s Russia. We love our country and will return when it is liberated from the Putin regime. And we will continue on this path until the end.”
