Tessa Wullaert will leave Fortuna Sittard after this season. The 31-year-old top scorer in the Women’s Eredivisie has decided not to renew her expiring contract for financial reasons.
Wullaert announced her departure from Fortuna during a press moment of the Belgian national team. “It’s a financial issue,” said the striker. “I don’t want to say much more about it. My agent is working on it. I focus on scoring goals.”
Fortuna performed a stunt in the summer of 2022 with the arrival of Wullaert, who is Belgium’s all-time top scorer with 82 goals. She signed for two seasons and immediately became captain. During her two years in Sittard, Wullaert scored consistently.
With 21 goals, she is the top scorer in the Women’s Eredivisie this season, ahead of Ajax’s Romée Leuchter (18 goals). Wullaert recently drew attention to himself by scoring no fewer than seven times in a match against Telstar.
It is not yet known where Wullaert will continue her career. According to The newspapaer Clubs from Italy and the United States are interested.
Before her period in Sittard, Wullaert played for Anderlecht. She also wore the shirts of Manchester City, VfL Wolfsburg, Standard Liège and Zulte Waregem.
