Dick Schreuder is candidate number one to succeed Arne Slot at Feyenoord. At least, that’s what the Spanish sports newspaper claims Marca Monday afternoon. Schreuder’s performances at PEC Zwolle and CD Castellón are said to have made such an impression that the 52-year-old trainer is at the top of the Rotterdam candidate list. However, Schreuder still has a three-year contract on the Spanish east coast.
After Schreuder was promoted to the Eredivisie with PEC last season, he opted for the surprising move to Spanish third division club Castellón. The Barrnevelder is currently leading Group 2 of the Primera Federacíon, good for promotion to the Segunda División.
Castellón is the highest scoring team in the third level (69 goals), and is praised for its offensive and intelligent field play. All things considered, Feyenoord would dare to go with Schreuder.
Kenneth Perez recently also recommended Schreuder to Ajax, and after the news about Slot, Feyenoord was also added. “Certainly,” the analyst responded on Sunday when asked whether the Castellón coach could handle it in South Rotterdam.
Perez thinks Schreuder has what it takes to manage any club in the Dutch top three. It is not known whether Alfred Schreuder’s brother is interested in a return to the Eredivisie.
The information about who has the best credentials for Slot’s legacy does not yet point in one conclusive direction. According to Johan Derksen, Marino Pusic (Shakhtar Donetsk, ex-assistant Slot) would be a top candidate, as mentioned The Telegraph and the Algemeen Dagblad Until recently, the names of Joseph Oosting (FC Twente) and Rogier Meijer (NEC) were high on the list.
Oosting already indicated last week that he would stay with Twente. Slot’s departure has yet to be definitively confirmed.
