The Siersteenlaan in Vinkhuizen has been cordoned off by the police due to a suspicious package. Images show that at 4 o’clock last night someone appears to place the package in front of the facade of the Vinkhuizen Bar.
The man, who is unrecognizable thanks to the hood, strolls back and forth in front of the bar with a plastic bag from Lidl. Then he disappears from view, apparently to place the package in front of the facade. In the reflection on the facade it seems as if a fuse is lit and then goes out again.
‘Shoved aside with my foot’
Around 10 o’clock in the morning, Jessica, when she wants to clean the pub, finds the package. It looks dangerous, she thinks. A (laughing gas) cylinder of several tens of centimeters high is completely covered with tape. There appears to be an ignition at the top with wires towards the side of the cylinder. “I pushed it aside with my foot.”
Because she doesn’t trust it, she calls her boyfriend. He comes by and immediately informs the police. A little later, the street was largely cordoned off by a massive police presence. The police spokesperson reports: “There are several emergency services in connection with a suspicious situation.
Jessica is also still present. “My legs are still shaking.”
Explosive Ordnance Disposal
In the adjacent Vinkennest, consultations are being held by the emergency services, including apparently bomb experts from the police. The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) is expected around half past two.

The EOD has arrived. One of the employees has put on a protective suit and is carefully walking towards the package.

The street has been cleared, the suspicious package has been taken by the EOD and will be neutralized in a safe place, the police spokesperson reports. “A sample was taken to see whether the cylinder contained an explosive substance.”
The police are further investigating the matter.
