Walters denied wanting to move to Russia the same day and wanting to continue working for Hilversum. Yet she stops now. “The publication about my private exploration draws me into the sensitivity of national political themes. This distracts from effective management of me and the municipal council of Hilversum, which I have always stood for,” she wrote to the municipal council.
She adds that she ‘wholeheartedly supports’ Hilversum taking in Ukrainian refugees and that as a councilor she has ‘deeply experienced the suffering of the attack on flight MH17’.
Proud of ten years as alderman
Walters also says she is proud of what she has achieved for Hilversum together with the rest of the municipal council and her party. “The Nieuwe Lelie community center is now being built in Hilversum-Zuid, the dog tax has been abolished, there is regional support for a new animal shelter, 382 flexible homes for people in housing need will be built on the Circus site and more people will be eligible for minimum schemes. All this while housing costs and parking permit rates remained low.”
