Eighteen former associates of Donald Trump have been charged in Arizona for involvement in efforts to overturn the 2020 election results. This is what the so-called grand jury of the American state today.

The indictment names eleven Republicans who allegedly falsely stated that former President Trump, rather than Biden, received the most votes in Arizona. No names are mentioned of seven others, but the AP reports that they include Trump’s former lawyer Rudy Giuliani and chief of staff Mark Meadows.

Giuliani confirmed this through his spokesperson and called the charges ‘politically motivated’. Meadows’ attorney could not yet confirm the charges.

The new charges follow similar cases in other US states. Several lawsuits are also pending against Trump himself surrounding the aftermath of the 2020 election and the Capitol storming in January 2021. In this new case in Arizona, Trump is named as an unindicted accomplice.

In the 2020 American elections, Biden won the state of Arizona with a small difference of 10,457 votes. His opponents made no fewer than eight attempts to overturn the election results through the courts.
