At Feyenoord, in the run-up to the away match against Go Ahead Eagles, it is mainly about Arne Slot. Because of all the media attention, the Rotterdam team’s away match on Thursday evening is almost forgotten, but football still has to be played and there is still plenty to play for.

The big question is which choices Slot will make in the starting lineup. Justin Bijlow has been in Feyenoord’s match selection for several weeks now, but has not yet played a minute. Slot was clear and did not want to make any changes under the crossbar until the cup final. Timon Wellenreuther was therefore assured of his starting place.

After the cup final, Slot reassessed the situation. Bijlow needs playing minutes to get back into the picture of national coach Ronald Koeman. The Dutch national team is participating in the European Championships in Germany and the Feyenoord goalkeeper has the ambition to participate. Will Slot hold on to the German or will he give Bijlow his minutes?

From a sporting point of view, there is no reason to change. Wellenreuther once again played a leading role at Feyenoord last weekend and ensured that the Rotterdam team were able to win the fourteenth KNVB Cup. Such a situation applies to Gernot Trauner. The defender has a chance of a place in the final selection of Austria, but then minutes have to be made. Leo Sauer is also in the picture for Slovakia.

Bijlow is better
Valentijn Driessen has a clear opinion and advises Slot to choose Bijlow. ”It would be a shame if Wellenreuther remained the first goalkeeper. He is about to leave and Bijlow has to go to the European Championships. They have already won everything, they don’t play for anything anymore. Bijlow needs to get into competition rhythm. Wellenreuther better? No of course not. Why else would he never play? Bijlow is better and always played goalkeeper when he was fit.”
