Helmond Sport was written off. Dead and buried after the mistake in Maastricht three weeks ago. The play-offs in the Kitchen Champion Division were unattainable for the ambitious club. But after two victories under an interim coaching duo, everything is different.

For example, Helmond Sport has a post-competition ticket up for grabs three games before the end. With a win against FC Emmen on Monday evening, the club will move next to MVV, which currently holds the coveted last spot for promotion matches. The fact that the upcoming opponent, the one from Emmen, is in almost the same boat (one point more) makes the match even more interesting: the match feels like a final.

Adrie Bogers knows that too. Since the resignation of Bob Peeters at the beginning of this month, he has been in charge with Tim Bakens. And led by the duo, they won against ADO Den Haag (0-1) and Jong Ajax (3-1). “Of course I looked at the results of the competitors with a slanted eye,” says Bogers now about the loss of points to MVV, VVV-Venlo and Cambuur on Friday evening. “But we have not specifically mentioned those results in the player group. We especially want to continue the line of ADO and Ajax.”

Cramp

Bogers and Bakens are therefore not changing their starting team. This means that Anthony van den Hurk will also kick off in Emmen. The striker dropped out against Jong Ajax last week with cramp. That was after the first half in which Van den Hurk had scored twice. Enrik Ostrc is also there. He returns from injury. Tarik Essakkati is missing. The winger from his own training has a fever. Bogers: “We sent Tarik home and that is a shame, especially for him. Tarik has come on well in the last few matches and was an option to start.”

Bogers is confident despite the absence of Essakkati. “Because we only play on Monday (the game was moved due to the king’s visit to Emmen on King’s Day, ed.) it was an extra long training week. We broke through this with a team activity on Thursday, with bocce and a barbecue with the team. That was even more fun because we had won twice in a row.”
