Feyenoord hopes to extend the contract of the second goalkeeper, which expires in the summer of 2025, for at least a year, it is reported. 1908.nl. The German goalkeeper once again showed this season to be a more than capable stand-in for first choice and is therefore in the interest of upcoming national champions PSV.

Wellenreuther is in his second season at De Kuip. In the summer of 2022, he came over on loan from Belgian top club Anderlecht and showed his value when competitor Justin Bijlow was injured shortly after the winter break. With the German between the posts, Feyenoord remained unbeaten for nine Eredivisie matches in a row (eight wins, one draw). In the current season, the German had to appear even more often due to recurring injuries at Bijlow: he now has 25 games in all competitions, in which he managed to keep a clean sheet thirteen times. PSV is therefore more than interested in the man whose contract expires in the summer of 2025. Wellenreuther could become the first goalkeeper in Eindhoven if the current first choice – Walter Benítez – leaves. However, there is currently ‘no movement’ around the Argentinian, who made his debut in the national team earlier this year, according to 1908.

Feyenoord would therefore like to get ahead of the Eindhoven team and focus on a contract extension for Wellenreuther. However, that seems to be difficult if Bijlow becomes first choice again next season: Wellenreuther has already announced that he wants to play as first goalkeeper somewhere next season. “If that is not at Feyenoord, he will aim for an outgoing transfer next summer,” it reads.
