To be honest, I don’t think you missed much. The game feels very outdated to me. With mechanics, bugs and quirks that have been in their games/engine since Oblivion (and maybe even before that, Oblivion was the first Bethesda game I really finished at the time).

To me it felt like yet another ‘quick and dirty’ reskin of an outdated engine with all the associated hassles.

The world also felt empty and dead to me, a whole universe and there are 3 or 4 ‘big cities’ (read a large village). Planets feel empty and deserted at the same time, but are completely full of abandoned buildings, rubble, etc. around 50 meters away. Exploring felt pointless because there was not much to be found other than procedurally generated content. And because you do all the traveling with a few clicks and the same repetitive take-off and landing animations, the universe also feels small and uninteresting, instead of massive and mysterious.

I was hoping for a figurative ‘Skyrim in space’ before release, but with upgraded mechanics, NPCs, graphics, game engine, etc. As we are used to from games in 202*. Unfortunately, it literally turned out to be ‘skyrim in space’ and any innovation in the underlying technology was non-existent.

For me it was a disappointment, luckily I played through Game Pass so it didn’t cost me anything other than a few hours to try the game. If I had bought the game for full price I would have been much more sour
