The man who was shot dead early in Tilburg on Tuesday is 37-year-old Toon Damen. This is confirmed by several sources. Sjoerd van Berge Henegouwen has been his lawyer for the past twenty years: “I have been told that he is dead, from hearsay. I haven’t heard anything officially yet.”
Damen was shot at the Borselestraat. He was fired upon when he got home. He was also the target of an attack in 2016.
Damen shot and killed his old childhood friend Flavio Fadda in 2008. He fired on him when he was in a car with his girlfriend. Fadda was hit five times. His girlfriend once. She was slightly injured. Damen was sentenced to 12 years in prison for this on appeal.
While in prison, his father was shot dead in the street in April 2012. This happened in Waalwijk, shortly after his release. He had served a prison sentence for drug trafficking. At least fifteen shots were fired. The victim was seriously injured and died a few days later in a hospital. It was suggested that this liquidation was revenge for Fadda’s violent death. Others stated that his past as a drug criminal had caught up with him, Omroep Brabant reported at the time.
Three years later, Damen junior was released on parole and has been on the run ever since. In 2016 he was shot on the Berndijksestraat in Kaatsheuvel. He was then hit in the foot. Damen hid until police arrived and was then taken to a prison hospital. Justice had been looking for him for a year because he did not comply with the terms of his release.
At the time, lawyer Van Berge Henegouwen accused the Public Prosecution Service of having revealed the whereabouts of his client to Fadda’s relatives.
His client was shot dead in Tilburg on Monday night. Investigations must show whether there is a connection with the earlier attacks.
