LeBron James stole the show on Sunday with nine three-pointers for the Los Angeles Lakers against the Brooklyn Nets. The opposing fans gave the NBA star a standing ovation afterwards, even though the Lakers won (104-116).

The 39-year-old James aimed nine times from a great distance, equaling his personal record. Thanks to the basketball phenomenon’s forty points, the Lakers recorded their sixth win in seven games and are now ninth in the Western Conference.

James scored forty points or more in an NBA game for the 77th time in his career against the Brooklyn Nets. The veteran is now also the only record holder for most NBA games with at least thirty points (including play-offs). He leaves behind legend Michael Jordan (672 versus 671).

James also became the second Lakers player ever with nine three-pointers in multiple games. Only Kobe Bryant (in four matches) has achieved this before. James missed just one of his 10 attempts from behind the three-point line in New York.

“I love this sport, although I know I won’t play another 21 years,” James said afterwards. “I am of course in the autumn of my career, but I don’t know yet when I will finally close the door behind me. I do know that I don’t have long to go.”
