Roda JC battles to victory at Jong PSV and retains important second place | Football

After FC Groningen’s clear victory over FC Emmen, Roda JC knew that a victory over De Herdgang was necessary to retain second place. Yet coach Bas Sibum’s team was surprised: Emir Bars gave Jong PSV the lead in the second minute.

It turned out to be the start of an entertaining first half, after which Roda JC could not complain with a 2-2 halftime score. Joey Müller equalized on behalf of the away team just before half time after goals from Václav Sejk (1-1) and Jevon Simons (2-1).

In the second half, Roda JC pushed through after a red card for CJ Egan-Riley, who received two yellow cards within three minutes. Lennerd Daneels provided relief and joy to the Roda JC supporters seven minutes before the end with a good long shot.

Due to the hard-fought victory, Roda JC still holds second place with six matches to go. The lead over number three FC Groningen is one point. The numbers one and two in the rankings will be promoted directly to the Eredivisie at the end of the season.
