“Ajax intends to permanently end the collaboration,” can be read on the website.

Insider trading

“This decision was taken after the Supervisory Board learned that Kroes purchased more than 17,000 Ajax shares one week before the publication of his intended appointment on August 2, 2023,” the club reports. “It is very likely that he has committed insider trading. Insider trading is a criminal offence.”

Supervisory Board chairman Michael van Praag reports that they are very unpleasantly surprised. “This is very bad for the club and for everyone who cares about the club. Alex Kroes’ actions are not compatible with what we stand for with Ajax. The moment at which he bought the shares means that he traded with insider information.”

‘Kroes’ position is not sustainable’

According to Van Praag, a listed company such as Ajax ‘cannot tolerate such a violation of the law, especially if it concerns the CEO’. Van Praag concludes that Kroes’ position as a board member of Ajax is not tenable.

Alex Kroes’ work is taken over by his fellow directors.
