Quilindschy Hartman has suffered a serious knee injury and that is a huge blow for the Feyenoord player. As a result, the left back will no longer play this season, will have to miss the European Championship in Germany and will face a lengthy recovery, which means he will also have to miss the start of the new season. The selection and technical staff support the 22-year-old Hartman with a nice gesture on the training field.

Hartman sustained the injury on Sunday afternoon in the home match against FC Utrecht. Feyenoord quickly shared the news about his long absence in the evening, but due to privacy legislation no announcements were made about the nature of the injury. Given his long absence, it must be a cruciate ligament injury. For top athletes, this is a horror injury that sometimes requires more than a year of recovery time.

For Hartman it is at least five months for the time being, and the question is always whether football players can reach their old level again. Orthopedic surgeon Rien Heijboer explains in conversation with RTV Rijnmond: “The anterior cruciate ligament is not only a ligament that provides stability, but it also contains nerve endings that contribute to coordination. More complicated mechanisms such as coordination cannot be completely restored. Everything you can do with an intact cruciate ligament becomes more difficult after a reconstruction.”
