Venezuelan Juan Vicente Pérez Mora died yesterday at the age of 114. Record collector Guinness World Records named him the oldest man in the world in 2022.

The Venezuelan succeeded a Spaniard as the oldest man in the world at the time, who had died at the age of 112. President Maduro of Venezuela https://twitter.com/NicolasMaduro/status/1775326525413367887 in his condolence message to the family, he proudly remembered the record. It is unknown who is now the oldest man in the world.

Pérez was married for sixty years to Ediofina del Rosario García, who died in 1997. With her he had eleven children: six sons and five daughters. As of early 2022, Pérez had 41 grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren and twelve great-great-grandchildren, according to Guinness World Records.

Glass of aguardiente every day

Pérez was born in 1909 as the ninth in a family of ten children. From the age of five, he worked in the fields in the Andes Mountains, helping to harvest sugar cane and coffee. In the late 1940s, Pérez became police chief. In that role he was responsible for resolving disputes within families and disputes over land.

Faith played an important role throughout his life. According to Guinness World Records, Pérez prayed at least twice a day. His secret for a long life was “to work hard, rest during holidays, go to bed early, drink a glass of aguardiente (alcoholic drink with 40 to 45 percent alcohol, ed.) every day, love God and always carry Him in your heart” .
