RB Leipzig is doing a lot to keep Xavi Simons at the club longer. The 21-year-old playmaker is on loan from Paris Saint-Germain until the end of this season, but Leipzig also wants to have his services next year.

Paris Saint-Germain poached Simons from PSV last summer – partly thanks to a clause – for reportedly only 6 million euros. The Parisian club immediately rented last season’s Eredivisie top scorer to RB Leipzig for one season, where he became a revelation.

Simons has already scored seven goals and ten assists in the Bundesliga this season and is therefore in good standing with his employer Paris Saint-Germain. Yet, according to trainer Marco Rose, Leipzig is doing everything it can to keep the Dutchman.

“We hope that we can keep Xavi here for another year or two. That would be good for him. It is important that we do not see ourselves as a conduit, but also remain ambitious ourselves. It must be rewarding to move to Leipzig and to to stay here longer,” Rose said Sky Deutschland.

Rose thinks that Simons would also like to stay in Leipzig longer. “He is developing well in a good environment. But we do not have it completely in our own hands. It is important that we qualify for the Champions League.”

As number four, Leipzig is on course to reach the billion-dollar ball. An important home game against Borussia Dortmund awaits on Saturday in the battle for the Champions League tickets. With a defeat against Dortmund, Leipzig will drop out of the top 4.
