The first professional victory of Tobias Lund Andresen’s career was partly thanks to Fabio Jakobsen, even though the Dutch leader of DSM company PostNL was released himself. His Danish teammate won the sprint against a small peloton in Bodrum and thanked Jakobsen afterwards. “He has a lot of confidence in me and really supported me. When he released, he indicated that winning was possible for me.”

“This is another new step in my career,” said Lund Andresen in his first reaction after the fourth stage of the Tour of Turkey. A difficult ride with some serious elevation gain. “If Fabio made it, we went for him, but he didn’t have the legs. We then made a plan with Frank van den Broek and Julius van den Berg. They helped me tremendously in the final. I was perfectly placed and was able to sprint to victory.”

The stages in Turkey are not as flat as the map looks, according to the Dane. “It’s more difficult than people think, we really have to climb a lot. And the asphalt in the mountains is not very good, so it feels like there are cobblestones,” he explains. “That’s good for me. My confidence is fine. I have confidence in myself, but Fabio gives me that too. He indicated that winning was really possible for me.”

“It’s nice to also have the leader’s jersey, that’s a nice bonus,” says Lund Andresen, who wants to develop as a puncher. “The real sprinters were released today, such as Fabio and Sam Welsford, but I see myself as a different type of sprinter. Just like Danny van Poppel. I hope I can focus even more on the hills so that I can focus on days like this.”
