If you have holiday plans or want to rent out your house via Airbnb, please wait a little longer Barbarian on Netflix. The 2022 horror film is now a worldwide Netflix hit, which can be streamed in the Netherlands via Amazon Prime Video.

It’s far from horror season, which usually starts a month before Halloween. All the more a ‘new’ horror film stands out. Barbarian also scores high on Rotten Tomatoes, which is extra good within this genre.

Barbarian follows a young woman who travels to Detroit for a job interview. She’s spending the night there, so she booked an Airbnb. But when she arrives late at night, she discovers that the house is double booked and that a strange man is already staying there. Against her better judgment, she decides to spend the evening, but she soon discovers that there is much more to fear than just an unexpected guest.

The Airbnb horror can recently be streamed for the first time on Netflix and in the Netherlands on Amazon Prime Video, but Barbarian already premiered at San Diego Comic-Con in 2022. The film received multiple nominations and awards, including awards for ‘Best Horror Film’ at the Critics Choice Super Awards, Portland Critics Association Awards and Golden Trailer Awards.

Airbnb horror scores among reviewers and the public

Since it premiered on Netflix last week Barbarian in the top 3 most streamed films worldwide. And the Rotten Tomatoes score is exceptionally high. Airbnb horror scores 93 percent among reviewers and 71 percent among the usually quite critical horror audience. For comparison: Netflix’s previous horror hit, Damselscores 56 percent and 60 percent respectively on Rotten Tomatoes.

The overall consensus among reviewers: ‘Smart, darkly humorous and, above all, scary. Barbarian offers a chilling and consistently unpredictable rollercoaster ride for horror fans’.
