Xavi will still stay at FC Barcelona

In January, Xavi Hernández decided that he would no longer be a trainer at FC Barcelona after this season, but the club icon now thinks completely differently about this. He will also be the trainer at the Catalan club next season, according to the news agencies AFP and Reuters.

Xavi, who has been Barcelona’s coach since the dismissal of Ronald Koeman in 2021, said after a 5-3 defeat to Villarreal in January that he would retire from the Spanish top club after the season. “I don’t want to become a problem for the club. I think the current situation deserves a change of course.”

Barcelona hoped to keep him as coach and after a conversation with chairman Joan Laporta and technical director Deco, Xavi is said to have changed his mind. Now the trainer wants to serve out his contract, which runs until the summer of 2025.

No prizes

Barcelona no longer has any chance of winning prizes this season. The Catalans failed last week against Paris Saint-Germain in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

In the Copa del Rey, the team was eliminated in the semi-finals by Athletic Club de Bilbao and in the competition the club is in second place, eleven points behind Real Madrid.
