Matthijs de Ligt playing against Real Madrid in the first semi-final of the Champions League is highly uncertain. The Bayern Munich defender is struggling with a knee injury.

De Ligt was missing from the final training for the cracker in Munich on Monday, just like Dayot Upamecano. The Dutchman injured his knee in the league match against Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday.

Trainer Thomas Tuchel said at his press conference on Monday that he will decide at the last minute about De Ligt’s availability. He is hopeful that Konrad Laimer, Jamal Musiala and Leroy Sané will be able to play.

“But we also have to wait and see,” said Tuchel, who is under heavy fire in Munich after missing out on the national championship. “I’m faced with some last-minute decisions.”

Bayern had to leave the national title to Bayer Leverkusen, but can still make the season successful by winning the Champions League. “Of course we want to go to Wembley,” Tuchel said, referring to the stadium where the final will be played. “Our win over Arsenal in the quarter-finals has given us confidence. But we now face another big challenge.”

Real Madrid is the most successful team in the Champions League, with five final victories since 2014 alone. Coach Carlo Ancelotti’s team eliminated defending champion Manchester City in the quarter-finals. Bayern-Real starts on Tuesday at 9 p.m.
