Visma | Lease a Bike did not avoid its responsibility in the second stage of La Vuelta Femenina, but the woman who had to finish on behalf of the Dutch formation – Marianne Vos – did not get around to sprinting in a chaotic final phase.

Vos was involved in a crash in the final phase and therefore lost all her speed. The experienced Dutchwoman was able to quickly continue her way, but was never again in an ideal position. Teammate Anna Henderson also crashed and even had to go to hospital for examination after the stage.

“The stage went perfectly for us up to three kilometers from the finish,” sports director Rutger Tijssen summarizes on the Visma | Lease a Bike. “Partly due to our efforts along the way, we created an excellent position for ourselves. Unfortunately, Marianne and Anna were involved in a fall at the end. As a result, our whole plan fell apart a bit.”

“You see these types of falls more often in the first days of a big tour,” says Tijssen. “Everyone is still fresh and wants to go for it. It sucks for now, but we can’t blame ourselves. We will go to war again in the coming days.”
