Jan van Halst sensed early on that things were not going well between Sven Mislintat and Maurice Steijn, he reveals at Rondo. Van Halst, who served as football commissioner and interim director at Ajax, shared the program Ziggo Sports his vision about the dramatic collaboration between the Amsterdammers and Mislintat.

“After a few weeks I realized that there was friction between Sven and the trainer Maurice, which has gone from bad to worse. I also struggled with that, because when are you really going to be on top of it?” says Van Halst, who takes the transfer of Diant Ramaj as an example.

“It is known that the transfer of Ramaj was a discussion. It’s not a bad thing that there was a discussion, but I just sensed that there was a bit of venom in it. It was not respectful to each other. I don’t blame anyone, but I think: this is not how you should work together. That also stung me.”

I put my summer vacation aside and drove to the training camp, because I already felt…” says Van Halst, who then does not finish his sentence. “That early? Did you already feel that in the preparation?”, responds Wytse van der Goot. “Yes… I felt that as a supervisory board member. There was no one at all ‘main positions’ at that moment. No general manager, no head of scouting, no head of training and a whole new technical director. And a football commissioner (Van Halst himself) who also just came to watch,” Van Halst explains. Marco van Basten doesn’t know what he hears: “Bizarre! That is not allowed at a club like Ajax!”
