The Los Angeles Lakers were eliminated from the NBA playoffs on Monday. LeBron James’ team lost 108-106 to the Denver Nuggets, meaning that the defending champions can no longer be traced with a 4-1 lead in the best-of-seven series.
Jamal Murray was the standout player for the Denver Nuggets. The 27-year-old Canadian was not only good for 32 points. With four seconds left he was also responsible for the decisive score. His team will face the Minnesota Timberwolves in the second round.
James scored thirty points for the Lakers. The 39-year-old basketball icon was in his 21st season in the American professional league. It is only the second time that James has been eliminated in the first round of the play-offs.
Due to the elimination, James will not see his dream of a fifth NBA title come true for the time being. The American last became champion in 2020, with the Lakers. He previously won the title with the Miami Heat (2012, 2013) and Cleveland Cavaliers (2016).
It is still unknown how long James will continue his impressive career. The NBA’s all-time leading scorer has said several times that he would love to play at the highest level with his son Bronny. Nineteen-year-old Bronny may play in the NBA from next season.
James will be active with the American team at the Olympic Games in Paris next summer. The US has won Olympic gold in seven of the last eight editions.
