Football International came on Monday afternoon with an article in which nine candidates were mentioned to succeed Arne Slot at Feyenoord. The name of Dick Schreuder, currently trainer of the Spanish CD Castellón, could also be read in the article. VI immediately linked a possible line-up to the trainer and surprised with a striking starting position.

The Spanish sports newspaper Marca announced on Monday afternoon that Schreuder would act as the main candidate to succeed Slot, who will most likely join Liverpool, at Feyenoord. VI thinks that the former coach of PEC Zwolle will play in a formation with wingbacks.

Schreuder achieved success with that formation at Zwolle, which was promoted to the Eredivisie last year. This year, ‘his’ Castellón is also playing attacking football and is heading for the championship in the third division of Spain. If Schreuder does indeed become Slot’s successor, it is obvious that he will also play in a 3-4-3 formation in Rotterdam.

“Schreuder’s working method holds no secrets within Feyenoord. Dennis te Kloese already had him on the radar during his period at PEC Zwolle. The staff includes Etiënne Reijnen, an assistant who Schreuder would have liked to take with him to Spain,” writes VI. “In addition, two players from PEC have been recruited: Thomas Beelen and Thomas van den Belt. Compared to Slot, Schreuder places more emphasis on intensity and less on tactics,” the medium continues.

VI So expect Van den Belt, who is hardly in the plans this season, to easily have a starting spot under Schreuder. The midfielder is expected in the front line, together with Santiago Giménez and Calvin Stengs. Igor Paixão, Quinten Timber, Mats Wieffer and Yankuba Minteh will be the midfielders on paper. Dávid Hancko, Beelen and Lutsharel Geertruida form the three-man defense in front of goalkeeper Timon Wellenreuther.
