Tallon Greek Spoor was eliminated by Andrey Rublev in the eighth finals of the Masters tournament in Madrid on Tuesday. The Dutchman had to admit his superiority to the higher-ranked Russian in two sets: 2-6 and 4-6.

The 27-year-old Greek track immediately lost his own service to Rublev, one year younger, in the first set. The world number eight also broke his opponent at 2-5 and secured a set win after just 27 minutes.

Also in the second act, Greek Spoor could not make a fist of Rublev’s serves. The global number 25 was initially able to keep his own service games, but he still gave in when the score was 4-5. Rublev finished it off with his first match point after more than an hour of play.

Greekspor made an impression earlier in this tournament. The Haarlemmer native first won against the Japanese Taro Daniel, after which he also defeated Holger Rune. The Dane (ATP-11) lost to the leader of Dutch tennis in three sets.

With the exit of Greek Spoor, all Dutch players in the singles are eliminated. Botic van de Zandschulp and Arantxa Rus lost in the second round to Ugo Humbert and Coco Gauff respectively.

Greek Spoor is still active in doubles in Madrid. Later on Tuesday he will play together with fellow countryman Wesley Koolhof against the Spaniard Marcel Granollers and the Argentinian Horacio Zeballos.
