Van Dijk will no longer participate in the Vuelta after a fall in the opening stage

Ellen van Dijk will not step on the fourth stage of the Vuelta. The 37-year-old Dutch rider is still suffering too much from her fall in Sunday’s team time trial, which started the Spanish stage race.

Van Dijk crashes in the last corner of the Vuelta Feminina team time trial

On Monday, Van Dijk chose to resign again. On Tuesday she had a lot of trouble reaching the finish during the third stage, which was won by Marianne Vos. “That is why we have now decided to give the body what it needs,” she writes on social media.

Blanka Vas, who rides for SD Worx-ProTime, still has the leader’s jersey around her shoulders.
