Vitesse’s crowdfunding has been quite a success so far. The campaign – which is called ‘Voor Geel-Zwart’ – can count on a lot of support and, according to club icon Theo Janssen, this does not come out of the blue. He is also very busy with the future of his club and encourages everyone to take action.

Of course, Janssen himself also does the necessary for Vitesse. “I’m busy with it a lot. I’m also someone who calls a lot of entrepreneurs to ask if they can do something. Something playful or funny. I’m looking to see if I can still organize things. For example, playing a competition with the former legends of Vitesse where the proceeds go to Vitesse. This way you work as much as possible to see how you can get as much money as possible as quickly as possible. Then this club can have a very long history 132 years old on May 14 and it would be a shame if that were the end. We hope to have many more years to come.”

“They also want to keep the derby in Nijmegen”

Former players, trainers and business people from the Arnhem area are already donating en masse, but it doesn’t stop there. Supporters of arch-rival NEC are also pulling their wallets. “What positively surprises me is that a lot of people outside Arnhem are joining in,” says Janssen. “There are even people from Nijmegen donating to the Vitesse club. In Nijmegen they also just want to keep the derby, at least for the future. There are a lot of people in the Netherlands who now give money to Vitesse. That is a big deal.” special to see.”

“I have always had confidence”

Partly due to the crowdfunding campaign, Theo Janssen – despite all the misery – has confidence in the future of Vitesse. “I’ve always had that. In recent weeks I’ve seen how busy everyone is. When I also see that a crowdfunding campaign is being started today and €250,000 has been raised within two hours, then I see you know that it works. Then you can say that it works and it works. There are many people who support Vitesse. Let’s hope it continues like this and we have a healthy club.”
