Max Verstappen has responded to the words of Oliver Mintzlaff, Red Bull’s sporting director. The German has made himself heard for the first time since the unrest within Red Bull Racing started, and addressed, among others, Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff.

Red Bull Racing still performs excellently on the circuit, but within the formation itself things have been stormy for some time. At the beginning of February, the soap opera surrounding team boss Christian Horner regarding alleged inappropriate behavior started, after which Max Verstappen was increasingly linked in the media to a departure from the team. It has now been announced that top designer Adrian Newey will be leaving the racing stable, which adds fuel to the speculation surrounding the three-time world champion. These speculations are not completely out of the blue, because Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff makes no secret of doing everything he can to tempt Verstappen to switch to Mercedes.

Mintzlaff responds to Wolff

However, Wolff’s attempts to seduce have not gone down well with Oliver Mintzlaff, the big boss at energy drink giant Red Bull since the death of Dietrich Mateschitz. In conversation with the German Image he noted, among other things: “I understand the pressure that Toto Wolff and perhaps other teams feel now that they are years behind, but I think Wolff should focus on his own problems. He has had enough of that.”

More going on in the background

Verstappen has now responded to these statements: “In the end, that might be his role, right? That he says something about that,” De Telegraaf quotes. “But of course there is more going on in the background than what he says in the media. I talk to him quite a lot. For me, he has come into the picture more after Dietrich’s death. He is busy with all kinds of things, not just Formula 1. But of course he gets everything.”
