The Giro d’Italia is already over for Eddie Dunbar. Jayco AlUla’s climber will not start today after he crashed in the second stage. He was left with abrasions and a knee injury.

Dunbar crashed about 65 kilometers from the finish, together with Olav Kooij, among others. The Irishman reached the finish at Oropa, but will no longer get on for the third stage. After examination by the team doctor, it was decided that he would leave the round. Dunbar suffered an injury behind his right kneecap and also suffered abrasions from his fall, Jayco AlUla said on social media.

Last year Dunbar finished seventh in the Giro d’Italia. After the opening stage of this edition he was fifteenth, but after his fall on Sunday he already lost quite a bit of time. The climber therefore dropped to place 36 in the general ranking.

Assignments
It is not the first time this year that Dunbar has had to leave a round early. At the beginning of February he retired from the Tour of Valencia after a crash and shortly afterwards had to leave the UAE Tour with a broken hand. In the Tour de Romandie, the last preparatory race for the Giro, he also gave up after four stages, but that was not because of a fall.
