Rafael van der Vaart believes that ‘the very best defender’ is wide for the Dutch national team, the analyst says during the preview of the match between Real Madrid and Bayern Munich on Ziggo Sports. The former professional believes that Ronald Koeman should ‘just let the centre-back play’.

De Ligt, who returned to the starting line-up in the return of the semi-final on Wednesday evening, has been impressing in the Bayern shirt for a long time. “I think he’s a great guy. Together with Eric Dier,” says Ronald de Boer, also present Ziggo Sports, the subject. “Kim Min-Jae is no pancake of course, but De Ligt is slightly better in my opinion. Faster, and can also head better, so he is better in standard situations,” the analyst continues.

De Boer says that it is ‘wonderful’ for national coach Ronald Koeman to see De Ligt play in the semi-final of the billion dollar ball on Wednesday. Van der Vaart goes the extra mile. “By the way, I think that if De Ligt gets through these matches well, he is simply the very best next to Virgil van Dijk. It doesn’t matter what kind of formation, just play,” says the ex-footballer.

Van der Vaart and De Boer were previously firm when it came to a different position in the Dutch national team.
