Dick Schreuder is now an important candidate to succeed Arne Slot at Feyenoord, says Marcel van der Kraan. Schreuder said this week that there had been no contact with the Rotterdammers, but that seems to be different now.

During the podcast Kick Off Van der Kraan sheds light on the most recent developments at Feyenoord. “They are now fully orientating themselves. The panels sometimes shift at Ajax, they also do that at Feyenoord. I think that at the moment Dick Schreuder is an important candidate, who has just been promoted at Castellón. I think that there is now what contact is.”

Schreuder said this week that he would find it difficult to say ‘no’ to Feyenoord. However, there are still aspects that can throw a spanner in the works. “He is still stuck there, for three years,” says Van der Kraan. “And he is the highest-earning trainer outside LaLiga, I think. So Feyenoord, just as it wanted money for Slot, will have to pay a very large amount for Schreuder. I think a few million. And he is someone who is everywhere let’s face it; Feyenoord would bring in a special type.”

Valentijn Driessen is then asked whether Castellón’s current trainer would be a good option for Feyenoord. “I wouldn’t know; I don’t know him enough for that. But I think he is someone who has no experience. A year and a half at Zwolle, yes, that doesn’t mean much to me. Maurice Steijn has had the best year in Sparta’s history his name is there. And we also know how that ended, albeit under difficult circumstances.” Steijn was quickly fired from Ajax after a chaotic period and a disappointing transfer summer. Driessen has even more argument against Schreuder: “Promoting with Castellón is not that difficult. They have by far the largest budget of the entire third division. And that’s it, it’s only the third division.”

Other names are also discussed, including that of Graham Potter, who turned down a job at Ajax. However, Van der Kraan does not think that that option is very realistic for the people of Rotterdam. “I don’t think Feyenoord will pay as much for a trainer who has not yet proven himself, as Arne Slot has done. Slot earned a Premier League salary, Feyenoord will not easily pay that now. And Potter will not come for less than 3 .5 million or four million to the Netherlands.”

Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Marino Pusic are also potential successors to Slot. Pusic in particular has a good chance, according to Van der Kraan. “I haven’t heard the name Van Bronckhorst, but Pusic has, he is very popular with the players. That can help. But I think Te Kloese is really looking at the data. The person, the character, but also how people perform with certain equipment, what opportunities they create.”
