OpenAI has announced that ChatGPT can now be used without an account. However, some features are not available to users who choose not to create an OpenAI account.
For example, ChatGPT users without an account are not able to save their chat history, OpenAI writes in a blog post. It is also not possible to share chat conversations with others. Users do not have access to the voice function on the mobile app. So it is only possible to talk to ChatGPT via text.
Furthermore, OpenAI says that certain prompts will be blocked for users without an account. According to an OpenAI spokesperson who spoke to TechCrunch, this is to “prevent the generation of inappropriate or harmful content.” However, OpenAI does not specifically mention which types of prompts are blocked.
The company says it uses data from conversations without an account to train ChatGPT. Users can still choose not to share that data, even without an account. This can be done by going to the ChatGPT settings. The option to use ChatGPT without an account will become available in phases. The function was not yet available for Tweakers.
