If you want to do some shopping on New Year’s Day, the best place to go in the region is Dordrecht. Supermarkets are increasingly open ‘normally’ on 1 January, according to figures from Openingstijden.nl. Yet hardly any supermarkets have opened in the Drechtsteden.
According to Openingsuren.nl, this is probably because New Year’s Day falls on a Sunday in 2023. Fewer supermarkets are usually open on that day. In Dordrecht, nine supermarkets are still open on January 1.
In Dordrecht, the Jumbos on Krispijnseweg, Slangenburg, Merwedestraat and the Jumbo Foodmarkt on PA de Kokplein are open from 12:00 to 18:00. At the same times, the Dirk van den Broek on the Van Oldenbarneveltplein, the Brouwersdijk and the Cornelis de Wittstraat are open. The Albert Heijn on Admiraalsplein and the AH To Go on Stationsplein will also be open on 1 January.
Not increased
The number of supermarkets open on New Year’s Day has not increased for the first time in years. According to data from Openingsuren.nl, 40 percent of supermarkets are open on January 1. Last year this was still 46 percent. Between 2015 and 2022, the number of branches opening their doors increased steadily.
