Besher Mousa won a prize in the Easter weekend with eighth place at the National Chess Championships for up to and including 10 years. “A great achievement,” says his trainer Jeroen Bottema. The first day Besher showed very good play, while on the second day he showed resilience.

The tournament took place in Tilburg as usual. On the first day Besher played one good game after another. He managed to win four out of five matches with great play. The young Hoogevener suffered the only defeat against the leader after that first day. Besher himself was third.

Emotion

The first game of the second day went very well again, but just when Besher wanted to checkmate his opponent, he lost his queen and therefore the game. Immediately afterwards, Besher had to play the first seeded player. Emotions were still high and Besher also lost this match. Luckily there was a break after that. Besher recovered well during this break and managed to get 1.5 points from the last two games. He finished eighth and won, in his own words, the most beautiful cup ever.

Other youth chess players from the Hoogeveen chess club were active in Damwoude on Easter Saturday. Hugo Roeten from Hoogeveen managed to finish third in his group.
