The lighting in one of the tubes of the Leidsche Rijntunnel on the A2 will soon be replaced by sustainable LED lighting. According to Rijkswaterstaat, there is a high risk of traffic jams during the work. Part of the tunnel in the direction of Amsterdam will be closed from Friday, May 3 (7:30 PM) to Monday, May 6 (6:00 AM).

During the work, the rest of the tunnel tubes will remain open, but less traffic can pass through. The maximum speed will also be reduced to 70 kilometers per hour.

“Diversion routes apply to traffic from the A12 towards Amsterdam,” Rijkswaterstaat reports. People are asked to make use of this to reduce the risk of traffic jams.

Dose traffic

There is a good chance that Rijkswaterstaat will have to regulate the traffic in the tunnel, because according to the tunnel safety regulations there should never be a traffic jam in the tunnel. “Road users who do not want to be stuck in traffic jams should therefore take the diversion route,” says Rijkswaterstaat.

Furthermore, work will also take place on the weekends of May 10 and 24. “Three tunnel tubes remain available during all work, and one tunnel tube is always open in the same direction of travel.” Earlier this year the lighting in the tunnel towards Den Bosch has already been replaced.
