Australia told Israel on Wednesday that the death of an Australian aid worker in Gaza by an Israeli airstrike was outrageous, saying Israel would continue to lose support unless it changed course.

“I spoke late last night with my counterpart, the Foreign Minister of Israel… I made it clear to him that the death of every aid worker and the death of Zomi Frankcom is outrageous and unacceptable,” Foreign Minister Penny Wong said.

Frankcom would leave behind “a legacy of compassion, courage and love for everyone around her,” her family said in a statement, according to national broadcaster ABC.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Tuesday that an Israeli airstrike had accidentally killed seven people working for the World Central Kitchen aid group in Gaza, and the US and other allies called for an explanation.

The attack killed citizens of Australia, Britain and Poland, as well as Palestinians and an American and Canadian citizen.

Wong said Israel must explain how the emergency vehicles, which according to media reports were clearly marked and whose movements were shared with the Israeli army, came under attack.
