The court wants to hear additional witnesses in the case surrounding the drug lab in Kiel-Windeweer. A body was also found, which had been attempted to be disposed of. At the start of the substantive treatment of the case, it turned out that a surviving relative of the victim would have had contact with one of the suspects in the case after the investigation.
After this information came to light, the court decided to postpone the substantive hearing.
Four suspects are said to have been involved in the production of synthetic drugs in the summer of 2022 in the village, just across the Drenthe provincial border near Zuidlaarderveen. Two people involved are also suspected of dumping drug waste in Roden and Norg.
A 69-year-old suspect, on whose land the drug lab was located, was arrested that year on Sunday, August 21, with a 67-year-old female co-suspect after the discovery of the drug lab at the Nieuwe Compagnie, an area on the north side of Kiel-Windeweer.
A day later, the remains of 38-year-old Tess Abels from Roermond were found on the site. The suspect was also charged with attempting to make the body disappear.
The public prosecutor stated that the contact between the surviving relative and a suspect in the case gave rise to further investigation. According to the Public Prosecution Service, the additional witness interviews can “shed a different light” on the case. “In the context of finding the truth, it is important to know exactly what was said.” That is why, according to the officer, it is necessary to interview the surviving relative and her friend again.
The court agreed with that position. The hearing of the case is therefore postponed indefinitely.
