King’s Day, European Championships or World Cup? Or do you just fancy a delicious orange-flavored bun? Then make these orange buns with orange icing.

Ingredients

  • For 6 buns:
  • For the orange buns:
  • 1 can of croissant dough (250 grams)
  • 2 tablespoons orange marmalade + extra for brushing
  • 50 grams of butter, at room temperature
  • 50 grams of sugar
  • For the topping:
  • 100 grams of cream cheese
  • 50 grams of butter, at room temperature
  • 100 grams of powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon orange juice
  • 1 tablespoon orange blossom water (optional)

This is how you make it

Preheat the oven to 180 degrees.

Remove the croissant dough from the tin and roll it out into a rectangular piece. Run the rolling pin over it and make sure all holes and seams are closed. Cut the dough into 6 small rectangles.

Mix butter, sugar and orange marmalade until smooth and spread over each slice of dough. Roll the dough up the long side and cut in half. Braid the two pieces of dough and then roll up the buns. Press well to seal so that the rolls do not roll apart during baking. Place the orange buns on a baking tray lined with baking paper, brush them with orange marmalade and place them in the oven. Bake for 20 to 30 minutes until done and golden brown. In the meantime, make the glaze. Mix cream cheese with icing sugar, orange juice and possibly a dash of orange blossom water until smooth.

Remove the orange buns from the oven and let cool to room temperature.

Brush with the orange glaze and serve.
