The police, ambulance, fire brigade and military. They can all benefit from the latest gadgets. Today and tomorrow the safety chain will meet in Twente to discuss what could be improved.

Organizing a separate trade fair for the safety chain is essential. Because when the emergency services come together during an incident, their focus is on the work. “Here I can ask what everyone is doing and which parts the emphasis is on,” says organizer Sander Hesseling in Goedemorgen Nederland on NPO 1. It is important to continue to do that, because “today’s innovation saves lives from tomorrow”.

Police officer Dirk Dehl is also very pleased with the trade fair. “We have had quite a few incidents in the country. That is why we must be able to find each other seamlessly. We visit each other at his fair and strengthen each other’s position.”

Drones

The drones that the fire brigade uses today are such an example of innovation. “We used to arrive on site and have no picture. We had to do that ourselves. Now a drone is hanging above us to quickly get a picture of the situation,” says fire brigade Robbert Heinecke.

Normal, smaller drones cannot handle that, according to Heinecke. “They are very limited and can only fly for half an hour.” The larger devices do have the capacity to bridge greater distances and capture everything well. “Ultimately, we create greater safety for our first responders on the street.”

Targeted deployment

According to cybersecurity expert Inge Bryan, the technology is used to work better and in a more targeted manner. Certainly useful, because the safety chain is struggling with a shortage of personnel. “If you use technology properly, you can be where it is really needed. So the more we invest in targeted deployment, the better we spend our tax dollars and the safer we are.”
