The Dutch Golf Federation (NGF) distances itself from an article by Follow the Money in which it is reported that former director Jeroen Stevens (photo) has “cheated” with registration fees. Stevens would have enriched himself in this way for at least twenty years.

According to Follow the Money Stevens, as director, cheated with registration fees. “For years, competition participants had to pay their entry fee in cash. Afterwards, the contents of the cash register were divided into two: one part for the NGF and one part for ‘JS’, Jeroen Stevens.”

“Although the board has been aware for six months, it is covering up the affair,” the research platform states. “The director was allowed to leave with his head held high at the end of last year, even though the cash differences ‘cannot be closed’. The NGF accountant reported fraud to the Financial Intelligence Unit in March this year.”

Follow the Money the article is based on audio recordings, internal documents and conversations with those involved.

The board and management of the NGF distance themselves from the article. “It contains factual inaccuracies, it unfairly points to individuals and the article is largely based on innuendo and claims from people who want to harm the NGF and individual people,” said deputy director Danielle Wallet.

Payment in cash is no longer possible

The NGF acknowledges that the association traditionally received registration fees in cash. “Some of this income was deposited into the NGF account and accounted for in its annual accounts and some was used to make cash payments.”

In August, the NGF changed its working method. Nowadays it is only possible to pay by cashless payment, such as by debit card payment. “The accountant is aware and has included this in her audit of the 2023 annual accounts,” the association reports.

Stevens resigned from his position at the NGF in November after reports about him were made to the Center for Safe Sport Netherlands (CVSN). “Fortunately, this is being investigated objectively, but the incident has taken all the pleasure and energy out of my work,” he said at the time.
