No fewer than 14 volunteers from Steenwijkerland received a Royal decoration on the occasion of His Majesty the King’s birthday in appreciation of their selfless dedication to society. They were presented with the award on Friday morning by Mayor Rob Bats. This happened in the Grote Kerk in Steenwijk. The following residents from Sint Jansklooster and Vollenhove received a ribbon:

Simon Maring from Vollenhove (66 years old)

The Red Cross (Kop van Overijssel) and Simon Maring are inextricably linked. He has been active as a first aider since 1999 and in 2002 he joined the Red Cross. Mr Maring thinks it is the most normal thing in the world to help people in need. At the Red Cross he is, among other things, an event coordinator, he takes care of the reception of refugees, he is the Population Care team leader and he is deployed at all kinds of events. The Dutch Reformed Church in Vollenhove could also count on his efforts. He was sexton of the church and church building for 14 years. He also does volunteer work for this King’s child. Together with other volunteers, he provides children with a mental or physical disability with an unforgettable holiday.

Jan Rook from Sint Jansklooster (75 years old)

Jan Rook started volunteering 50 years ago. In 1971 he was the founder of Corsogroep Kluitenberg together with two brothers. He is the driving force, motivator and driving force behind more than 50 years of parade history in Sint Jansklooster. He has been active at the VHK Sports Association for more than 35 years. He was competition secretary, referee and ensures that the sports fields are neat and tidy every Friday afternoon for the match on Saturday. Jan Rook is also a driving force at the Vollenhoofs Visserskoor. He is also a volunteer in the Village Hall where he cleans the hall every week and he is active in the thrift store.

Zwanetta Winter-Vis from Vollenhove (82 years old)

Since 1967, Zwanetta Winter has been an active and enthusiastic volunteer who has worked for various organizations. Including for the Interest Association Vollenhove-Stad for which she took care of the administration. For more than 38 years, Mrs Winter has been committed to offering a museum place in the City of Vollenhove, where the historical and cultural heritage of the ‘Land of Vollenhove’ is presented. Started as a volunteer at the ‘Oudheidkamer Brederwiede’, she was also involved in the transfer to the City Museum Vollenhove in 2005. After the City Museum became a reality, she was successively a hostess, center manager and purchasing and sales coordinator. She now manages the day-to-day management of the museum and coordinates educational projects, among other things.
