The football evening of AZ and Aston Villa went quietly, but 52 English supporters were arrested at Alkmaar station in the run-up to the match.

Around 5:15 p.m., a person was arrested at Alkmaar station for prohibited possession of weapons. The knife he was in possession of has been confiscated. A second arrest took place around 5:25 p.m. for insult and incitement. Pepper spray was used during this arrest.

Shortly afterwards, a group of Aston Villa supporters were checked on the platform to see if they were in possession of match tickets. During the inspection, a knife was probably seen on someone. When the police wanted to check this, the group took refuge in a stationary train. No more knife was found.

One by one, the 50 football fans in question were removed from the train with the support of riot police and arrested for, among other things, disrupting public order. A number of suspects resisted arrest. The riot police used violence. Pepper spray was also used. Balaclavas and narcotics were found on the train. None of those involved had a match ticket in their pocket.
