A magnitude 5.6 earthquake struck near Taiwan on Saturday, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) map showed. However, no tsunami alert was issued. Social media users posted videos of shaking in the area. According to the US agency, the quake occurred in the Philippine Sea near the coast of Taiwan at a depth of 33 km.

Social media users posted videos of shaking in the area. According to the US agency, the quake occurred in the Philippine Sea near the coast of Taiwan at a depth of 33 km.

Reports earier said that an earthquake of magnitude 5.8 struck Saturday near Hualien City, Taiwan, as reported by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC). According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a shallow depth of 20 km. A second report was later issued by the German Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ), which listed it as a magnitude 5.6 earthquake.

Several users on X, platform formerly known as Twitter, posted about the earthquakes on Saturday.
